Requirements / Specification Document

TITLE: Vector Network Analyzer

Requesting Laboratory / Division / Group:

Communications Technology Laboratory Fundamental Electromagnetic Standards and Technology Division Guided Wave Electromagnetics Group (672.01)

General Statement of Need:

The purpose of this project is to provide the Navy Primary Standards Lab (NPSL) with traceable S-parameter measurements with the lowest uncertainties and highest repeatability that NIST can provide. To this end, NIST and NPSL will matching instrumentation, including a vector network analyzer. NIST will characterize the E-cal kits and develop traceable definitions for the different electronic states and corresponding uncertainties. Furthermore, NIST will develop an uncertainty analysis workflow with accompanying software for NPSL to implement these kits into their calibrations. NIST will provide instrument control code as well as data analysis software for the network analyzer.

This new approach will reduce the uncertainties for NPSL’s S-Parameter calibrations, while also reducing the complexity for technicians performing the calibrations.
