About this file
This is a Detail Specification Sheet for U.S. Military Academy (USMA) cuff buttons, MIL-DTL-1563/15B, effective January 6, 2014, superseding the previous issue from April 30, 1997. The specification is approved for use by all Departments and Agencies of the Department of Defense and is classified under Federal Supply Classification (FSC) 8455.
The cuff buttons shall be manufactured from Red Brass 85/15 (UNS Alloy No. C-230) with a nickel-plated, gold-plated finish featuring a matte finish with burnished highlights. The buttons feature an insignia design on the face with dimensional specifications provided by Government-furnished hubs or dies. Marking for identification shall appear on the underside of the cuff button face. Unit packaging requires two cuff buttons mounted on a card and packaged inside a plastic box, with intermediate packaging consisting of 100 mounted cards per box using standard commercial packaging methods. The specification incorporates the latest issue of MIL-B-1563 as a companion document. Design flexibility is permitted for the fork, pivot bar, and back support construction, with solid fork type construction acceptable as a substitute for shell type construction. The Army Inventory Heirarchy (IH) serves as both custodian and preparing activity, with the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Commodity/Technology office as the review activity under Project No. 8455-2014-017.
