About this file

This is a Requirements/Specification Document issued by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Communications Technology Laboratory, RF Technology Division, Electromagnetic Fields Group (672.02) for procurement of a frequency comb system.

The Electromagnetic Fields Group requires a complete frequency comb system capable of locking four lasers with wavelengths of 776 nm, 780 nm, 960 nm, and 1260 nm. The system consists of six primary items: (1) an optical frequency comb with 1560 nm ± 20 nm center wavelength, ±2 MHz comb mode spacing tuning, >50 nm spectral width, six output ports with >10 mW per port, SC/APC-PM connectors, 10 MHz RF reference with 1E-10 in 1s stability, and internal beat detection; (2) a frequency extension base module supporting 700–1500 nm wavelength range with >4 channel compatibility and FC/APC connectors; (3) four frequency extension channels covering the specified wavelengths with spectral filters and beat detection; (4) four laser locking modules providing error signal electronics with SMA outputs; (5) a 3U 19" rack enclosure with Ethernet, RS-232, and USB ports, remote control capability, and compatibility with Python and MATLAB; and (6) a frequency counter supporting at least four channels with no dead time. Delivery shall be to NIST-Boulder, Mail Stop 672.02, 325 Broadway, Boulder, CO 80305. The vendor must possess an Export Control Classification Number (ECCN) and an active Unique Entity Identification Number (UEI) on SAM.gov at time of award. Additional requirements include vendor technician on-site for equipment setup, electronic manuals, training for two trainees covering maintenance and troubleshooting, and a 12-month extended warranty covering parts. Acceptance is not expected to exceed 7 business days.
