Requirements / Specification Document

TITLE: Respiratory Motion Simulator

Requesting Laboratory / Division / Group:

Communications Technology Laboratory Radio Frequency Technology Division Shared Spectrum Metrology Group (672.05)

General Statement of Need:

The Communications Technology Laboratory (CTL) is engaged in research examining the ability of communication signals to be used for assessing human respiratory motion. If successful these methods could be used to aid in diagnosing multiple conditions in a telehealth or in-patient medical setting. As part of this work, CTL is designing a laboratory experiment that attempts to measure simulated respiratory motion in a controlled radio propagation environment (e.g., anechoic, or non-reflective chamber). To complete the setup of this experiment, CTL seeks a simulated human torso that is capable of realistic chest rise in a variety of controlled respiratory rates and patterns.

CTL will use an already acquired ASL-5000 breathing simulator manufactured by IngMar Medical and currently seeks a human torso manikin and interface box that can connect to and be controlled by the ASL-5000. This manikin shall have physical chest rise.

Items and Ancillary Services:

Item 1: RespiPro Manikin and Interface Box Quantity: 1 Specifications: 1.1 Consist of a human torso manikin and head connected to an interface box.

1.2 Be capable of replicating respiratory patterns of various breathing rates (breaths per minute).

1.3 Have physical chest rise, simulated by mechanical means.

1.4 Be compatible with the ASL-5000 controller.

Item 2: Software package and license necessary to control the ASL-5000 and the RespiPro Manikin.

Quantity: 1 Specifications: 2.1 This software will be installed on an existing NIST computer.

Computer hardware is not part of this purchase.

2.2 This software should be capable of defining/setting the

respiratory motion simulated by the manikin.

2.3 The software license shall be perpetual. That is, NIST will always be able to use the features and functionality purchased. A software support contract is outside the scope of this procurement.

Item 3: Parts necessary to connect the ASL-5000 to the interface box and manikin

Quantity: 1 set Specifications: 3.1 All hoses, cables, and connectors necessary to connect the pieces of this system together. This includes (but is not limited

to) air hoses, network routers, and power cables.
