About this file
This is a Requirements/Specification Document from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) for the procurement of a QNet Qubit Controller.
The requesting laboratory is the Communications Technology Laboratory, Radio Frequency Technology Division, Highspeed Waveform Metrology Group (672.03). NIST seeks to procure one unit of a low-noise, programmable RF and microwave pulse generator capable of generating and synchronizing multiple tones between DC and nominally 16 GHz. The equipment will support the operation and measurement of microwave-optical transducer devices being developed at NIST and collaborating institutions including the University of Colorado and Joint Institute for Laboratory Astrophysics (CU-JILA). The controller will serve as the experimental interface driving quantum networking project experiments and enable researchers to use discrete variable (DV) quantum measurement schemes with precise timing control across multiple frequencies and phases. Key technical specifications include: output frequency tuning range of DC-16 GHz, multiple synchronized input/output channels, output power exceeding +45 dBm across the full range, phase noise less than -145 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset, and capability for rack mount or bench top installation with manual and programmable control interfaces. The connector type specified is N-Type or 2.92 mm (K) coaxial output.
Delivery shall be completed no later than a specified date to the NIST-Boulder facility (Mail Stop 672.03, 325 Broadway, Boulder, CO 80305). The acceptance timeline is expected to exceed seven business days, with 15 business days allocated for conducting performance tests. The base manufacturer warranty is acceptable. All other support categories including electronic media, installation, facility/utility considerations, training, calibration, maintenance, government-furnished equipment, and travel are marked as not applicable (N/A).
