About this file

This Requirements / Specification Document is for an Arbitrary Waveform Generator (AWG) sought by the Communications Technology Laboratory's High-Speed Waveform Metrology Group at NIST in Boulder, Colorado. The document details technical specifications for a single AWG unit, requiring at least two independent output channels with a 6 GSamples/sec sampling rate, minimum 1 Volt peak-to-peak output voltage, 12-bit resolution, and 100 million points of waveform memory per channel. Additional requirements include compatibility with Windows 11, USB or Ethernet connectivity, and a chassis with standard 110VAC power supply. The shipping destination is NIST-Boulder at 325 Broadway, Boulder, CO 80305, with acceptance expected to take no more than 7 business days. The document indicates that base manufacturer warranty is acceptable, and no specific training, installation, calibration, or maintenance requirements are mandated.

Requirements / Specification Document

TITLE: Arbitrary Waveform Generator

Requesting Laboratory / Division / Group:

Communications Technology Laboratory Radio Frequency Technology Division High-Speed Waveform Metrology Group (672.03)

General Statement of Need:

The desired item is an electronic arbitrary waveform generator (AWG) capable of producing an electronic signal output based on a user-defined waveform. The AWG will have a minimum

Item Specifications and Quantities:

Item 1: Arbitrary Waveform Generator Quantity: 1 EACH Specifications: 1.1 Number of independent output channels:

At least two (2)

1.2 Waveform sampling rate:

At least 6 GSamples/sec (6 billion samples per second) when two output channels are enabled

1.3 Output signal voltage:

At least 1 Volt peak-to-peak (Vpp) -or- At least 4 dBm

1.4 Resolution (bit depth)

At least 12 bits

1.5 Waveform memory:

At least 100 Mpts (100 million points) of memory per channel when two channels are enabled

1.6 Marker channels:

For units with 2 output channels, an additional “marker” channel must be present which can provide voltage pulse synchronized to the start of the waveform.

-or- For units with at least 3 output channels, additional “marker” channels are not required, as long as specifications 1.2 and

1.5 are still met with 3 active channels.

1.7 Chassis:

The item should include any required chassis, backplane, mainframe, or housing required for it to function as specified.

The item should include any required power supply, adapter, connector, backplane, etc. required for it to function on standard 110VAC mains power.

1.8 PC Connectivity:

The item should include any required backplane, adapters, interfaces, etc. needed for connection to a computer via USB or Ethernet.

The item should be compatible with computers running Windows 11.

The item should not require direct internet connectivity in order to perform its specified functions.
