About this file

This file is a Materials Specifications document detailing technical requirements for fencing materials and components. The specifications cover thirteen categories of materials including wood posts (7' length, 5" minimum diameter, pressure-treated lodgepole pine, Ponderosa pine, or Southern yellow pine), wood braces (8' length, 4" minimum diameter), barbed and barbless wire conforming to ASTM A 121 standards, various fence stays, steel T-posts meeting ASTM A 702 requirements, steel pipe components, staples, fasteners, and nails.

The document provides detailed specifications for a Steel Jack Fence system, which includes steel rails (1¾" OD, 13 gauge minimum, 12 feet long), prefabricated jacks (2⅜" OD, 10 gauge minimum, 50" height with welded internal sleeves), 90-degree corners, and ravines with pivot mechanisms. All steel components must be new and manufactured in the USA, with specific requirements for wall thickness, weight specifications, and construction details. The steel does not require painting or galvanizing. Additional hardware specifications include carriage bolts, hex nuts, brace clamps, and various gauges of galvanized wire components, with precise dimensional and strength requirements for each material type.

2-point barbs of 14-ga wire spaced 4 inches apart. Wire and barbs shall be zinc-coated steel, with a zinc coating of at least 0.3 oz/ft2 of coated surface area. The minimum breaking strength of each wire shall be 950 lb-force. The barbed wire shall conform to ASTM A 121.

4. Barbless Wire: A strand of two 12-1/2-ga, galvanized wires twisted together.

Wire shall be zinc-coated steel wire of at least 0.3 oz/ft2 of coated surface area.

The minimum breaking strength of each wire shall be 950 lb-force. The barbless wire shall conform to ASTM A 121.

5. Wire Fence Stays: Twisted wire fence stays manufactured from smooth galvanized 9-ga wire.
