About this file
The document is a set of specifications for Trimedlure (TML) Solid Dispensers, issued by the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA), specifically for the Mediterranean Fruit Fly Control Program. The specifications detail precise technical requirements for solid dispensers that will be used to deliver a controlled release of Trimedlure, a chemical used in pest control. The document outlines comprehensive testing procedures, including emission rate determination, chemical and bioassay testing methods, and gas chromatography parameters. The TML dispensers must meet strict specifications, such as containing a minimum of 2 grams of trimedlure, being non-friable, resistant to moisture, and capable of being easily installed in traps.
The contract requires the dispensers to be produced in no more than three lots, with each lot of 2,000 individually wrapped dispensers packed in cartons that can withstand stacking up to 60 inches. Payment will be made by CDFA after successful bioassay testing, with a 60-day window for performance verification. If the dispensers fail to meet specifications, the vendor must either provide a new lot for testing or cover return shipping costs. The document provides detailed shipping instructions to the CDFA Pest Detection/Emergency Projects unit in Anaheim, California, with specific contact information and operating hours. Technical questions about the dispensers should be directed to a specified CDFA contact in Sacramento.

4. In the morning, place plugs one to a chamber. Adjust gas glow to 100 ml/min.
5. After 1 hour of equilibration in the chamber, remove the plug and weigh. Return the plug to the chamber.
6. The plugs are reweighed every 2 hours. The average weight loss per hour over a 6-hour period is considered the emission rate.
4.5 Procedure for Testing Trimedlure Extraction
1. The plug used for emission rate should not be used for extraction.
2. Drop the in one pint jar and 200 ml 50/50 acetone/hene. Allow the plug to leach at room temperature for at least 48 hours, with intermittent mixing.
2. Using 3 ml volumetric pipette transfer 3 ml aliquot to a 100 ml volumetric flask and dilute to the mark with acetone/hexane mixture.
4. Samples are ready for analysis by GC/FID.
Five micro liters (ul) of each sample are injected onto a GC/FID after calibration with known concentration of "C" isomer.
4.6 Suggested Gas Chromatography Parameters

4. 7 Trimedlure Content Calculation = (A)(C)(D/B)
Where: A=Total peak area (PAU) for the two Trimedlure peaks in the sample.
B= PAU for the "C" isomer the standard C=Standard concentration in mg.
D=Dilution factor

6.2 Payment:
Payment for the TML dispensers will be made by CDFA after the TML dispensers have been successfully bioassayed. The TML dispensers will be accepted by CDFA upon delivery. Within 60 calendar days after receipt of the TML dispensers, CDFA will complete a bioassay to detennine if the TML dispensers perform as stated above. If the TML dispensers fail to perform satisfactorily, CDFA will contact the vendor in writing to arrange for disposition of the shipment.
If the TML dispensers do not perform as required the vendor may either:
a) Furnish another lot of TML dispensers for testing using TML purchased by the vendor, or
b) If the shipment fails bioassay and must be returned, the vendor will pay all shipping costs to return the shipment and pay all cost to ship any new shipment of TML dispensers.
Questions regarding delivery and billing of the shipment may be directed to the above addresses and individuals. Technical questions regarding the TML dispensers should be directed to Jason Leathers at the following:
