DIVISION 1 SHORT FORM GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
PART 1 – GENERAL
ITEM 1 - DESCRIPTION OF WORK
1.1 Background: The goal of this project is to replace 2 manholes and replace/repair two manhole rings and lid ring at the Cedar Pass Lagoons; install additional riser rings on 5 manholes at Cedar Pass Lodge, and install two riser/rings on the main Cedar Pass Developed Area Wastewater System. This is due to one manhole having incorrect inverts and previous corrections have failed, damage has occurred to a riser lid ring of 1 manhole, 1 of the manholes concrete riser was broken; 5 of the manholes are below ground level, and 2 of the manholes are located in a high silt area. This project would allow proper flow of sanitary wastes from the housing complex, prevent sediment from flowing into the sewer lines, and prevent silt/mud from entering sewer lines and covering lids that will allow for ease of locating manholes for preventive maintenance measures.
1.2 Work Covered by the Contract Documents:
A. Project Locations: Ben Reifel Visitor Center- 20695 SD HWY 240, Interior SD, 57750; Cedar Pass Housing Area- 25225 Ben Reifel PL. Interior SD,57750 (Across the street next to the volle;

• Standard manholes are manholes which have a depth, measured from the invert of the outlet pipe to the top of the cover, greater than 7 feet. Extra manhole depth shall be considered as invert to cover depth of greater than 8 feet. Shallow manholes shall have a depth of 7 feet, or less. Standard manholes shall be constructed of 5-inch thick precast concrete manhole and cone sections, 8-inch concrete base slab, with precast concrete adjustment rings and cast-iron frames and covers. Shallow manholes shall be constructed of 5-inch thick precast concrete sections with 6-inch reinforced concrete cover and base slabs. 4,000 pounds per square inch at 28 days of age.
• Installation: Manholes shall be installed at the locations and elevations of existing manholes, or as directed by the COR. Mortar for jointing shall consist of 1-part Portland cement and 2 parts of fine sand. Adjustment rings shall be grouted in place when the manhole is constructed.
• Technical Specifications
Precast manhole sections/joints shall be sealed inside and out with a plastic cement putty, or a non-shrink hydraulic cement mortar. A “O-Ring” seal or flexible gasket, hydrophilic butyl rubber water stop with mastic wrap may be used for joining the manhole sections. All manholes shall have a least 1 adjustment ring. All manholes shall be free of visible leakage and shall pass the hydrostatic tests, “Gravity Sewer Line Tests.” If precast concrete manhole bases are used, they shall be bedded in a minimum of 6 inches of compacted clean sand or crushed rock to prevent future settlement.
• Connection of PVC sewer pipe to manholes shall be made by the use of approved flexible boot style pipe to structure connection equal to PSX Positive Seal Gasket System as manufactured by Press-Seal Gasket Corporation.
• Frames and Covers: Frames and covers shall be made of cast-iron. The manhole covers shall be cast with the lettering “SANITARY SEWER.”
