Minimum Specifications Requirement for a Flow Injector Analyzer (FIA).

Mission-critical requirements

Soil Analytes: Nitrate (NO3), Ammonia (NH4), and Phosphate (PO4).

Sample Throughput: 100/hr for NO3/NH4. 45/hr for PO4.

Autosampler min. capacity: Capacity to accommodate 180-4 ml sample vessels plus standards loaded within 8-hour workday window.

Auto diluter: Automatic software-initiated dilutions of over range samples up to 20x dilution capability.

Automatic Standard Preparation: Diluter or autosampler fully capable of creating full range of standards from stock solution.

Detector: Ultraviolet/ Visible Spectrometer, (UV/Visible wavelength detectable spectrum).

NO3 wavelength required: 540 nm

NH4 wavelength required: 660 nm

PO4 wavelength required: 660 nm

NO3/NH4 extraction and reagents: 1.0 M KCl extraction solution. Ammonium chloride, sulfanilamide, N-(1-Naphthyl) ethylenediamine, Sodium hypochlorite, Sodium salicylate, Sodium potassium tartrate tetrahydrate reagents.

PO4 Olsen extraction and reagents: Sodium bicarbonate extraction solution. Sodium lauryl sulfate, sulfuric acid, molybdate/antimony, sodium chloride, ascorbic acid reagents.

PO4 Bray extraction and reagents: 0.025 M HCl in 0.03 M NH4F extraction solution. Sodium lauryl sulfate, sulfuric acid, molybdate/antimony, sodium chloride, ascorbic acid reagents.

Cartridge Modules: Cartridge, Nitrate/Nitrite; Cartridge, Ammonia w/ heater; Cartridge, Phosphate w/ heater.

Supplies: Consumables parts (i.e., pump and flow tubing) interchangeable with Astoria Pacific segmented flow analyzer using 303A cartridge base. Current consumable supplies on-hand worth over $5,000 and redundant consumables between new and existing instrument will save the government significant money of the life of the instruments.

Peristaltic Pump Compatibility: Must be compatible with Astoria 302A peristaltic pump and associated tubing for emergency backup usage to ensure continuity of time-sensitive sample analyses.

Software (sample addition): Samples can be added/deleted while analysis running.

Software (data export): Results files can be exported either in Excel or .csv format.

Soil Method Configuration: Instrument shipped with established methods for soil analytes listed above. Maintaining specific Methods configuration currently used. Supplier will build the cartridges per flow diagrams and ship instrument with optimized methods established.
