1/16” up to 24” inclusive
1/8” over 24” and up to 120” inclusive
Angular:
+/- 1 Degree
Holes:
1/16” for holes less than or equal to ½”
1/8” for holes greater than ½”
Safety:
Break all exposed sharp edges and corners
Remove burrs from all machined and cut surfaces
Material Requirements:
All structural pieces of aluminum will consist of the following material type:
AL 6061-T6 or AL 5086 H116 as required.
Internal walls of vent racks will be covered with expanded metal and welded in place using included welding requirements.
Expanded Metal Requirements:
Expanded Metal, ¾, .125 standard, Aluminum, Type 3003-H14
Opening size SWO: .695
Opening size LWO: 1.508
Stacking Cone Requirements:
All stacking cones must be of solid construction:
One solid billet machined cone, or
One solid cone built from laminated and welded plates and four side plates to form a cone.
Design Loads:
Storage deck will have a uniform live load limit of 40 pounds per square foot. PSF
The maximum load capacity of the vent storage rack will be 5,500lbs evenly distributed.
The center of mass will be the center of the storage rack.
Welding and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Requirements:
All structural joints will be welding to a minimum size of 3/16”, both fillet and bevel welds.
Splice joints may be added to facilitate fabrication and assembly.
Splice joints can be chosen by the fabricator that coincides with material length. Splice joints will be kept to a minimum.
Welding Requirements:
All welding will be IAW AWS D1.2
All weld filler on joints will be 5356 AL.
All welds will be VT prior and post testing.
Lifting Requirements:
All vent racks will be lifted one at a time, empty, or with a max load capacity of 5,500lbs.
Lifting eyes:
Lifting eyes are designed so that a quantity of (2) will carry the load (total weight of vent rack + working load of 5,500 lbs) x 200%.
A 60-degree angle minimum from the horizontal will be maintained after rigging gear is fully installed.
The vent rack will be rigged from (4) lifting eyes to a single point.
All lifting eyes will be fully welded at all joints
All lifting eyes will meet or exceed ASME BTH-1, design category B, service class 0
Shackle sizing:
Use a 1-1/4” shackle with a 1-3/8” pin in lifting eyes.
Minimum ½” shackle with 5/8” pin in lifting eyes.
Forklift:
Lift using provided forklift pockets.
Use a minimum of 6ft long forks.
Stacking Requirements:
Vent racks can be stacked up to (3) high empty or fully loaded with maximum load capacity of 5,500lbs.
Lashing may be required when units are stacked (2) units or higher depending on resting surface.
All vent racks will have a stacking cone and opening designed to receive the cone on the bottom of each stacking leg.
Wind Speed Lashing Requirements:
Based on wind speeds ASCE7, 3-second gust.
Ultimate wind loading assumed at 85mph.
Service wind loading at 65mph.
Lashing required at or above the following wind speeds, empty = 35mph, loaded = 65mph.
Testing Requirements:
Prior to PSNS acceptance, the vendor/fabricator will perform the following testing requirements.
Load testing:
Each vent rack will be static load tested to (2) times the total weight of the brow + the working load limit with the vent rack supported at each end under the feet with a spacer no less than 12”
Once the load is fully applied, the test weight will remain on the vent rack for at least 15 minutes.
The maximum deflection at the center of the span will not exceed the Length/120 of the span.
Lift point testing:
Each vent rack will be lift tested. Loading will be (2) times the total weight of the vent rack + the working load limit with the vent rack lifted at the (4) lifting eyes.
Once the load is fully applied, the test weight will remain on the vent rack for a minimum of 15 minutes.
Fork Pocket Testing:
Each vent rack will be lifted with a forklift. Loading will be (2) times the total weight of the vent rack + working load limit with the vent rack supported by the forklift pockets.
Once the load is fully applied, the test weight will remain on the vent rack for a minimum of 15 minutes.
* All test documentation results will be provided to PSNS via a paper copy or in an electronic form.
Vent Rack Marking/Labeling Requirements:
All completed vent racks will be scale weighed.
The data/test plate will be stamped with the vent rack length and weight.
The data/test plate will be affixed to the vent rack via adhesive/rivet/fastener on the outside of the vent rack towards one end of the vent rack in an easily readable location.
The data/label plate will be of solid material such as Aluminum, Powder coated steel, or Stainless Steel.
Lifting eyes will have the words “Lifting Point” stenciled in red next to the lifting eye.
Label Plate Requirements:
The label plate will have the following information and will be placed on the vent rack on the vertical truss (PC: 5, Fig. 1) directly next to the lifting eye with the following information.
VENT RACK WT: xxxxlbs MAX LOADING WT: 5,500lbs
BROW MAY BE LIFTED FULLY LOADED
DO NOT LIFT MULITIPLE VENT RACKS IN STACKED CONDITION
PICK EYE ANGLE WILL BE 60 DEG FROM HORZ OR BETTER
All changes, revisions, or deviations must be approved by PSNS and PSNS must receive a copy of the drawing relating to approved changes.
