About this file
This specification sheet outlines requirements for an integrating sphere measurement instrument to calibrate hyperspectral cameras used on drones for preharvest food safety inspections. The instrument must have a high dynamic range of greater than or equal to 4 orders, high spatial luminance uniformity over the exit port of 1.5E+21 or better, minimum resolution of 10,000, and a typical lamp lifetime of over 500 hours with lamp degradation over lifetime not exceeding 50 hours. It must also support advanced functionality through an SDK API compatible with LabVIEW, C++, and MATLAB.
The related federal contract opportunity is a solicitation from the Department of Agriculture Agricultural Research Service Field Research Implementation and Information Delivery Northeast Area seeking an integrating sphere measurement instrument brand name or equal to the Labsphere HELIOS Plus Variable Output System, as specified in the technical requirements.

INTEGRATING SPHERE INSTRUMENT SPECIFICATIONS
I. BACKGROUND
The ARS Environmental Microbial and Food Safety Laboratory (EMFSL) in Beltsville, Maryland plans to purchase an integrating sphere measurement instrument brand name or equal to the Labsphere HELIOS Plus Variable Output System, model: USLR-V12F-NDNN-P for radiometric calibration of the hyperspectral cameras to be used on drones for preharvest food safety inspection of produce fields. Since the hyperspectral cameras will be used under variable outdoor conditions, the integrating sphere instrument must have high dynamic range (>=4 orders), high spatial luminance uniformity over exit port (<=±1%), broad spectral radiance (350-2400 nm), and high measurement resolution (<=3 lux) to achieve the acceptable radiometric calibration results.
II. REQUIREMENTS
The integrating sphere instrument must be capable of the following:
• Spatial luminance uniformity over exit port: <=±1%
• Angular uniform field of view (full angle): <=±2%
• Expected luminance output: >= 11,000 cd/m2
• Expected illuminance at port: >= 35,000 lux
• Peak radiance: >= 350 W/m2-sr-um
• Peak irradiance: >=1.5E+21
• Minimum resolution: <=3 lux
• Dynamic range: >=10,000
• Typical lamp lifetime: >500 hours
• Lamp degradation over lifetime: <=-10%
• Output Degradation over 50 hours: <=-1%
• Sphere internal diameter: >= 12 inches
• Spectral radiance range: 350-2400 nm
• Operational duration of calibration: >=50 hours
• SDK API for advanced functionality with LabVIEW, C++, and MATLAB
