About this file

This document is a Special Packaging Instruction (SPI) for a 504362760 (CAGE 10988) diesel engine with NSN 2815-01-561-6871. The SPI provides detailed instructions for the preservation, packaging, and marking requirements for this engine. Key details include:

The engine must be preserved using MIL-STD-2073-1D, Method 53, which involves a sealed, watervaporproof envelope with desiccant. The packaging materials and methods are specified, including cushioning, blocking/bracing, container construction, and marking requirements. The engine must be flushed with antifreeze and preservative oil, and have specific fuel system preservation steps completed prior to packaging. This SPI is referenced in the related federal contract opportunity solicitation SPRDL1-24-R-0089 issued by the Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime, which is seeking 6 base and 6 option quantity diesel engines with this specialized packaging.
