About this file
This Statement of Work (SOW) details the refurbishment of a KC-97 Canberra aircraft on static display at the Malmstrom Air Force Base Museum Air Park in Montana. The contractor will perform comprehensive restoration services including full painting, corrosion removal, repairs, and surface treatment. Specific requirements include sanding the entire exterior surface, removing all external corrosion, repairing damaged components, applying primer and high-gloss two-part polyurethane paint, and reinstalling all components to museum-quality standards.
Key technical specifications mandate the contractor use military-specification "GLOSS" paint, seal all aircraft openings, prep and paint Plexiglas windows, and ensure the refurbished aircraft meets professional museum display standards. The project requires strict environmental compliance, safety protocols, and documentation, including weekly progress reports, chemical inventory lists, and safety data sheets. The contractor must complete work on-site, follow specific temperature and humidity painting guidelines, handle hazardous materials according to Air Force regulations, and warranty the paint application for two years against flaking, peeling, or cracking.

The contractor shall ensure the aircraft is clean and free from dirt, debris, and contaminants. The contractor shall perform corrosion treatment to all external surfaces, reassemble all components and items, and apply final chemical coating treatment to prevent corrosion from spreading. Finally, the contractor will apply color matching high-gloss paint to the aircraft exterior.
1.1.3. The contractor shall provide all personnel safety gear, equipment, tools, materials, supervision and safety transportation. A chemical inventory list (attachment 1) with SDS for each item, will be approved prior to use by CE Environmental, Bioenvironmental, Wing Safety (Ground), HAZMAT Program Manager, and readily available to all contract personnel.
