Statement of Work United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Western Human Nutrition Research Center (WHNRC) Davis, CA

1. Objective

(Serial Number US411026) The instrument is used for measuring respiration in cells and will be used in multiple human nutrition clinical trials. The service agreement will cover all parts, labor and time. A yearly preventative maintenance visit shall be included that covers cleaning the internal and external parts of the instrument, lubing and checking the tray door operation, and doing XFe96 system checks and tests.

2. Scope The purpose of the instrument is to measure respiration in cells such as monocytes and lymphocytes to assess mitochondrial function. The instrument can precisely measure oxygen consumption and pH changes in the cells of interest. The sensors of the instrument are very costly, and it is cheaper to have a service agreement if one of the sensors fails or electronic boards does. Proper preventative maintenance checks will also help keep the instrument in good condition and prevent future problems that can be identified sooner.

The future projects include a multi-year human dietary guidelines study and smaller cell culture experiments. There will be hundreds of measurements from multiple time points. We anticipate that the instrument will be used on a weekly basis and heavily used. A service agreement will be important to help keep this analysis ongoing and will be cost effective.

It is expected that the need for this warranty service will be ongoing for at least the next four years.
