3.3.3 Start by installing a control valve 2 ½ inch with encasement at the junction with the 4 inch Main gas line. Ensure access to the valve from the road via hand-hole to exercise open/close functions. The intent is to allow gas flow to the rest of the base during the remaining repairs and isolate Building 662 gas supply when necessary.
3.3.4 Replace up to 175 LF of 2 ½ inch natural gas service line piping with medium density polyethylene yellow gas pipe with tracer wire, between the end of the recent repair line next to Building 662, up-to the 4 inch Main gas line along Santos Rd. All metallic valves, couplings, and other metallic fittings used in polyethylene systems shall be factory or field coated and cathodically protected. Anodes shall be installed to protect these metallic fittings. All newly installed pipe shall comply with manufacturer recommendations, and tested/verified to work properly with Building 662 gas service.
3.3.5 Prior to beginning backfilling, the entire trench shall be examined to make sure the pipe is continuously supported at all points on well-compacted soil. Backfill materials and practices should be in compliance with ASTM D2774, “Standard Practice for Installation of Thermoplastic Pressure Piping”. Warning tape shall be installed directly above the gas service line, 6 inches below the finished grade.
