Species and Plant Quantities (nomenclature is as present in Flora of the Chicago Region, 2017; it is recognized by INDU that plant nomenclature is in a disposition of change. Provision of inappropriate species justified by the Contractor per alternative nomenclature will not qualify for payment).

GRAND TOTAL 18,000

II. SCOPE OF WORK

Propagation Facility:

Propagation must occur at the Contractor’s propagation facilities. If the Contractor must subcontract a portion of the propagation actions, then INDU must be informed by the Contractor and the subcontractor approved by INDU’s Contracting Officer Representative (COR). INDU will inspect plants during the propagating process. INDU will provide a 72-hour notice prior to the inspection.

INDU will provide seed to the Contractor (see below) and conduct plant inspections, therefore, the propagation facility must be within 120 miles of INDU. A distance exceeding 120 miles must be preapproved by INDU’s COR.

Propagation Containers:

The Contractor will propagate plants in tube trays of minimum diameter of 2.25 inches and length of

4.5 inches or rectangular pots with minimum width of 2.75 inches and length 4.0 inches.INDU’s COR must approve propagation containers of dimensions which differ from the above.

Propagation Medium:

The propagation medium must be free of all propagules that may be invasive and of species that are not native to Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. The Contractor must provide the composition of the propagation medium to INDU’s COR. INDU’s COR must approve the propagation medium prior to any propagation actions.

Seed:

It is required that in the process of restoring lands of a National Park genetic integrity of life associated with the restored lands is maintained. Therefore, INDUwill work with the Contractor to provide seed.

INDU will provide a minimum of 30% of seed of the following species: Carex stricta, Carex aquatilis, and Schoenoplectus acutus var. acutus. The Contractor must provide seed not provided by INDU.The Contractor must collect seed from within the southern watershed of Lake Michigan between the Illinois/Indiana state line and within thirty miles north of the Michigan/Indiana state line.Seed harvesting within 30 miles of the eastern edge of the southern watershed of Lake Michigan is acceptable. If the Contractor obtains seed from a third party, the seed source must be communicated to INDU’s COR and the COR must approve the seed transaction. The Contractor must provide to INDU all seed harvesting locations. The Contractor must provide permission to INDU’s COR to inspect seed collection sites upon request by INDU.

Seed Germination:

It is known that given weather conditions and other reasons native seed may not be available for collection or the collected seed will not germinate. If germinable seed is not available then the Contractor must immediately communicate seed status to the COR. The COR will provide a permissible substitue species.

Plants:

For all species, the plant inclusive of stem, roots and soil, must retain its integrity upon removal of it from the propagation container. The root system must be developed, but not overly twisted and intertwined. For all species of the genus Carex, plants must be comprised of a minimum of three stems with each stem being at least five inches in length. Stem length of Iris virginica must be at least six inches in length. Stem height of Schoenoplectus acutus must be at least eight inches in length.

Delivery:

The Contractor must deliver plants to Indiana Dunes National Park. The Contractor must provide a 72 hour notice to INDU’s COR prior to delivery. The Contractor can deliver a maximum of 18,000 plants at any one time. Following a delivery, the Contractor must provide a minimum of a one week interval between deliveries unless permission is granted by INDU’s COR. The Contractor must arrange the delivery location and date in advance with INDU’s COR.

Delivery Location:

The Contractor must transport plants to INDU’s greenhouse facilility at 1100 North Mineral Springs Road, Porter, IN. INDU’s COR must receive a 72 hour notice prior to plant delivery. Following notification of delivery, within 24 hours INDU’s COR will provide the Contractor with directions to the delivery location.

2. The Contractor must deliver all plants in accordance to the above specifications by August 31, 2021.
