I. Required Submittal Number (RSN): Identifies items to be submitted together as a complete submittal.
1.02 BACKGROUND AND EXISTING SITE CONDITIONS
A. Reclamation constructed Palisades Dam and Powerplant from 1951 through 1957 on the South Fork of the Snake River in southeast Idaho. The dam is located on the Snake River, about 7-1/2 miles southeast of Irwin, Idaho, and about 11 miles west of the Idaho- Wyoming border in Bonneville County, Idaho.
Two separate 26-foot diameter tunnels feed the powerplant and outlet works through the left abutment. The outlet works includes six pairs of 7.5-foot x 9-foot regulating slide gates: four pairs that are connected to the outlet works tunnel and two pairs that are connected to the powerplant tunnel. The four pairs that are connected to the outlet works tunnel are used to regulate flows through the dam. The outlet works also includes a pair of 96-inch diameter ring follower gates in tandem with 96-inch diameter hollow-jet valves. The two (2) hollow-jet valves are the primary valves used to regulate flows through the dam during the summer operating months and are not used and winterized during the winter months. The two (2) hollow-jet valves serve as the dedicated primary make-up valves for the generator units. The hollow-jet valves are tied into the SCADA system and are often remotely operated.
The two hollow-jet valves have reached the end of their life and will be replaced with two
(2) 90-inch diameter jet-flow gates furnished under this contract.
SOW- 2
B. The existing 96-inch diameter hollow-jet valves, valve controls, adaptors, and appurtenances will be removed under a separate contract.
C. The jet-flow gates and appurtenances furnished under this contract will be installed under a separate contract.
D. The existing floor hatch panels above the 96-inch hollow-jet valves will be removed and modified or replaced under a separate contract to suit the jet-flow gates.
E. Existing concrete valve supports used to support the weight of the 96-inch hollow-jet valves will be removed under a separate contract.
F. The 96-inch hollow-jet valves, valve controls, adaptors, and appurtenances will stay in place for the post-award on-site survey performed as part of this contract.
G. Reference photographs can be found in Section 51 00 30 – Photographs.
