Description of Work;
Superstructure Jacking and Bearing Pad Replacement.
Bridge N801, Gallegos Wash Bridge.
The BIA Navajo Regional Office, Branch of Transportation (NRO‐BOT) has the need to raise (jacking) the bridge superstructure's (deck and beam system) in order to replace neoprene bearing pads for BIA Bridge N801, Gallegos Wash Bridge.
The work includes all preliminary reconnaissance, design, mobilization, labor equipment, materials, temporary traffic control and incidental work necessary to mechanical raise (jacking) the bridge superstructure to facilitate the removal and disposal of damaged or non-functioning neoprene bearing pads, cleaning of bearing surfaces, installation of four (4) new bearing pads, installation of new steel keeper bars to prevent bearing pads from moving, and the lowering of the superstructure onto the new bearing pads. The work will also include the patching of beam ends only at Pier #3 where concrete has spalled and exposed reinforcing steel; the removal of steel supports and shims left behind from previous bearing pad replacement work; and the installation of a new expansion joint between bridge spans 3 and 4. If the bridge needs to be closed to traffic, the closure is not to exceed 30 minutes at a time to accommodate bridge jacking. Advanced notification of a few days would be necessary in public media and signage at the next intersections from the bridge in each direction.
