Scope of Work for automatic gates upgrades Background: The Bloomington Visitor and Education Center of the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge serves over 30,000 visitors for informal education each year in addition to over 8,500 children with formal environmental education programs. Special events are held at the facility serving between 2,500 and 8,000 additional visitors. As a premier urban National Wildlife Refuge with over 3.5 million residents in the nearby metro area, we are building more and stronger relationships with new conservation audiences.

In 2020, MN Valley NWR Visitor Center in Bloomington was burglarized with doors and windows broken, stolen federal and personnel property. MN Valley NWR is looking to upgrade our two entrance gates to the parking lot for our visitor center.

Purpose: This project is to install two automatic gates with proxy readers and vehicle loop detectors at the entrances of the Bloomington Visitors Center. These gates will help with grounds and building security. Current gates are large and heavy gates that need to be manually opened and closed when vehicles are entering and leaving the grounds at the beginning and end of each day. Gates rarely are closed due to visitors still in the parking lot after normal business hours. Installing gates that will automatically open and close during normal business hours.
