The technical requirements specify precise plate dimensions (1200 mm height, 950 mm width, 0.8 mm thickness) with specific hardness (160/170 HV for brass, 150-200 HV for stainless steel) and smoothness (<4µm Rz) specifications.
The contract period is four years, consisting of a twelve-month base period and three twelve-month option periods. Plates must be delivered within 22 weeks of contract award, with a one-year warranty required. Contractors must provide a safety data sheet (SDS) for review by BEP's Environmental, Health, and Safety Office and a certificate of analysis (COA) documenting plate dimensions and composition. The Office of Engraving is in the process of updating its Computer-to-Intaglio Plate (CTIP) process from CTIP-I to CTIP-III to produce intaglio printing plates. The CTIP-III process consists of direct laser engraving onto a metal plate instead of a polymer plate. The CTIP-III engraved metal plate is a critical component in the overall platemaking process and creates the master plate to produce subsequent working plates that go on press to print currency.
C.2 Purpose
C.2.1 Product, Service or Outcome Needed.
