Life Raft Annual Inspection for CGC HAWKSBILL
1. Background and Current Observed Issues CGC HAWKSBILL is located in a semi-remote area and doesn’t have a normal open market sources as most other units. CGC HAWKSBILL needs to complete the annual life raft inspections. Due to the narrow Charlie windows going through the closest available company is the fastest turn around. CGC HAWKSBILL can drop off life rafts to the nearest location in the Bay Area for service and pick up the life rafts the following week. All other companies are out of driving distance and require the unit to ship life rafts for service leading to potential delays in shipping times within a narrow Charlie period. It is more advantageous for unit operations to go through a company that can service the life rafts and the unit can save over 96 lost operational hours with shipping time delays from other companies.
