Statement of Work Dated: May 24, 2023
1.0 Introduction
The contractor, shall perform work as described in the Statement of Work (SOW).
2.0 Background
Training to gain sufficient competence in psychotherapy skills is particularly important to military psychiatrists who are often assigned to isolated duty stations as the sole mental health provider following their residency training. Full psychoanalytic training is a requirement in order to adequately teach and supervise psychiatry residents in psychotherapy. There are no NMCSD psychiatry faculty members credentialed to provide adequate didactic instruction and supervision in psychodynamic and psychoanalytic psychotherapy. Full training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, in order to be qualified to teach and supervise residents in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, requires at least another 4 years after completion of residency training.
However, there are independent private practice psychiatrists and clinical psychologists in the San Diego civilian community, who do have full psychoanalytic training to effectively teach and supervise psychiatry residents in this required skill.
