Contractor shall insure all Sector Buffalo installed fire hydrants can meet all requirements per National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 291, Chapter 4, Flow Testing; any failures shall be documented to COR in failure report. If hydrants and piping are found to be unserviceable, vendor shall replace upon COR approval.
The hydrant test, at a miminum, shall record the following information for all Sector Buffalo fire hydrants (quantity 5) to be reviewed by the COR:
- Date of hydrant flow test
- Location of hydrants being tested (name of the street)
- Time of day testing was performed
- Static reading at the residual hydrant (pressure in the system with no flow)
- Residual reading at the residual hydrant (pressure in the system during flow)
- Flow reading at the flow hydrant, using a pitot gauge
- Water main diameter in inches
- Hydrant outlet size and type (determining the coefficient of discharge)
- Hydrant elevation
Upon determination of the failure, completion of the hydrant test and after discussing with the COR, the contractor shall furnish and install componets utilizing Contractor furnished tools and equipment.
Fire Hydrants: For any replacement fire hydrants, contractor shall provide dry-barrel type fire hydrants, AWWA C502 or UL 246, "Base Valve" with 6 inch inlet, 5 ¼ inch valve opening, one 4 ½ inch pumper connection, and two 2 ½ inch hose connections. Individually valve pumper connection and hose connections with independent nozzle gate valves. Provide mechanical-joint or push-on joint end inlet, except where flanged end may be indicated;
with end matching requirements as specified in AWWA C502 or UL 246 for size and shape of operating nut, cap nuts, and threads on hose and pumper connections. Provide fire hydrants with frangible sections as mentioned in AWWA C502. Provide fire hydrant with special couplings joining upper and lower sections of fire hydrant barrel and upper and lower sections of fire hydrant stem that break from a force imposed by a moving vehicle.
