SCOPE OF WORK

THE JOHN F. KENNEDY CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS

1. INTRODUCTION

The John F. Kennedy Center (JFKC) for the Performing Arts is a presidential memorial and the nation’s busiest arts facility, presenting more than 2,000 performances each year and attracting over three million visitors annually. The campus consists of the original 1971 Edward Durrell Stone designed building, the newly opened Steven Holl designed REACH Expansion buildings, and a roughly 750,000 sq. ft. underground parking garage. Situated on 17 acres of land overlooking the Potomac River in Washington, DC the Kennedy Center is open to the public 365 days per year.

The JFKC houses eight theaters of varying sizes which accommodate various scheduled and unscheduled events ranging from dinner parties of a few people up to events which host 10,000 or more people. The facility has three restaurants, administrative offices that accommodate approximately 600 staff members and extensively landscaped grounds.

The REACH expansion is a 65,000 square foot addition to the facility, which includes rehearsal and performance space as well as dedicated classroom space and other multipurpose rooms for the Kennedy Center’s extensive arts education programs.

Throughout this Statement of Work, “The Kennedy Center” encompasses both the main building and the REACH expansion.

2. SUMMARY OF WORK

This scope of work is for preventative maintenance and emergency services for the Kennedy Center’s diesel fire pump and emergency generator.

The existing diesel engines that serve both the Center’s fire pump and emergency generator require cyclic preventative maintenance (PM) in order to maintain proper functionality. The fire pump provides pressurized water to the Center’s extensive dry, wet, and pre-action type fire protection systems. The emergency generator provides emergency power to critical components throughout the Center such as computer rooms, elevators, security, safety, and emergency lighting when normal power is not available. On occasion, repair services may be required for either engines and prompt responses are of the utmost importance.
