Minimum Specifications
U. S. GEOLOGICAL SURVEY
Idaho Water Science Center 203 Collins Rd Boise, ID 83702
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Idaho Water Science Center (IDWSC) requires the purchase of a truck mounted camper ‘rugged style’ to serve as a water quality lab that attaches to an existing Chevrolet 3500HD Duramax pick-up. The camper will be used to support USGS water-quality sampling throughout Idaho and surrounding states. The camper shell should not extend past the tailgate and fit within the existing truck bed. Campers will be used in an off-road setting not suitable for extended hitches.
Rugged Custom Truck Mounted Camper at a minimum must:
a. Camper should fit inside the existing truck bed.
b. See attached photos for specific dimensions of the replacement camper.
c. Campers should come equipped with overhead storage compartments.
d. Countertops should be made of sturdy laminate material and exist on both sides of the camper.
e. Single basin sink (non-metallic) enamel coated, or composite located on to the rear of the camper on both sides. See photos for dimensions. Sinks must be of a larger size and depth.
f. Heavy duty connectors to external drain from basin.
g. Standard sliding glass windows with screens, located on each side of camper.
h. Exterior aluminum diamond plate protection that extends throughout pickup bed section (both sides and bottom) of RV camper.
i. One 18,000 BTU (minimum) catalytic furnace that attached to 5-gal. L.P. tank and regulator – thermostat controlled.
j. One 26x72-in. man door (about) with screen door combination with dead bolt.
k. Four mounted hydraulic camper jack plates with hydraulic or electric jacks.
l. At least two 120V GFCI-protected outlets, inside, under each overhead cabinet, both left and right sides.
m. At least two 12V DC outlets, inside, cigarette type, one under each overhead cabinet.
n. At least four 12V DC LED lights, one under each overhead cabinet, the hallway, and cab-over.
o. Two paralleled 12V deep cycle RV batteries installed in the camper with the proper securing straps.
p. One solar panel charging system with regulator.
q. 1000-watt (minimum) power inverter wired to the camper battery, with shutoff between the battery and inverter, mounted in the left side under-counter cabinet.
r. Electrical system wired to operate using internal 12V DC or external 120V AC with 10-gauge wire.
s. One refrigerator with icebox on the passenger side, the largest capacity that will fit in the closet space, switchable running on L.P.G. and electric power.
t. Floors of a non-permeable material, overlapping up the sides of the walls for 3 inches and sealed to ensure no liquid materials are allowed to seep into or under any walls or flooring.
u. Overhead, reversible electric fan in vent.
v. There will be NO need for: mattresses or pads, windows in overhead, gas stove and ventilation hood, window curtains, water tanks and roof access ladder.
