About this file
This is a Specification Sheet/Statement of Work for a spare air start unit required by NASA's X-59 Project. The X-59 Project requires one TMD-180 Air Start Unit to serve as a spare for NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center (AFRC), which currently operates only a single unit. No alternative products are approved, and the equipment must comply with NASA Quality Document Q1-C requirements, including manufacturer's Certificate of Conformance.
The TMD-180 must feature a Cummins QSX 15 engine (Direct Injection 4 Cycle Turbo Charged, 435 bhp, 6-cylinder, Cummins® US EPA Tier 4F/Stage V certified) with compressor output of 180 lbs/min at 68°F and maximum discharge pressure of 42 PSI. The unit requires a single hose output connection with nominal discharge air temperature of 390°F. Delivery must occur to NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center, Building 4876 Warehouse #6, Lilly Drive, Edwards, CA 93524, no later than February 28, 2026. The equipment includes a 24-month/2000-hour warranty. Freight delivery coordination must occur 4 business days in advance to facilitate proper driver entry into Edwards Air Force Base, with possible AFRC visitor request submission required.
