1. Constructed with a rectangular, concrete, reinforced, monolithic shell (encasement) measuring not less than six (6) inches thick on all sides, top, and bottom, and the exterior coated with white two-part epoxy as applied by the manufacturer.
2. All edges of the concrete shell (encasement) shall be chambered not less than four
(4) inches wide.
3. The concrete shell (encasement) will be of one-piece construction, and supported off the slab with concrete runners integral with the shell and running the full width of the shell. The runners shall provide not less than four (4)-inch clearance between the shell and slab. Cold joints are not permitted.
4. The strength of the concrete shall be not less than 4,000 psi, and be reinforced to provide structural, static, and impact integrity.
5. The 1,000 gallon tanks shall be approximately 11’-0” long, 5’-8” wide, 4’-4” high, having a gross weight of approximately 18,000 pounds.
6. The shell (encasement) must contain an interstice (space) for leak monitoring between it and a primary (internal) steel tank which must be constructed of not less than 7-gauge carbon steel with continuous weld along seams, and fitted with a steel bill tube not less than four (4)-inch inside diameter, and terminating not less than six
(6) inches from the bottom of the steel tank to prevent static spray (the primary tank must meet UL Standard 142, and 2085 2-hour fire rating, NFPA Standard 30, and
American Welding Society Standard for continuous welds). In addition, there must be a non-permeable barrier equal to or better than that provided by 30-mil high-density polyethylene between the primary tank and concrete shell. Further, all exterior surfaces of the steel tank must be effectively protected against corrosion and thermal extremes.
7. All exterior steel appurtenances shall be coated to inhibit corrosion (and meet
ASTM B117).
8. The fill tube must be equipped with a lockable cap.
9. Location, size, and number of ports and tank-top openings shall be carefully coordinated with the tank manufacturer prior to ordering tank.
2.02 Tank Accessories
A. Tanks shall be equipped with:
1. A steel UL listed overflow containment basin surrounding the fill inlets manufactured for the primary tank, surrounding fill pipes, and protected by the two-hour fire rating of the enclosure. The overflow basins must have a capacity of not less than seven (7) gallons, and contain a stick port or normally-closed valve to release spilled product into the main tank for overfill protection;
2. Fill limiter, overfill protection (shutoff) valve, rated to close and limit fill automatically at 95 percent level;
3. Audible overfill alarm or combination vent/overfill alarm to alert user when tank is near full;
4. Clock-type visual level gauges for determining the level of liquid in each tank that is accessible to the delivery operator;
5. Neoprene bearing pad kit for tank;
6. Vent package, with vent pipes, emergency vents, vent and fill caps, adaptors, gauge sticks. Terminate top of vent not less than 12 feet from grade
7. Double-wall fuel hoses and/or piping suitable for the stored product;
8. Where product piping extends below the top of the tank, the piping shall include a shut-off valve and normally-closed safety valve. The safety valve shall be an approved anti-siphon valve or electric solenoid to prevent siphoning or flow should fuel line break;
9. Placards and labels are to be placed on all tanks, all sides, and be impervious to tank contents, UV, and extreme weather exposure. Furnish NFPA placards
(gasoline=:1,3,0 or diesel=: 0,2,0). Additionally, label each tank with its capacity, contents and hazard warnings (“No Smoking, Gasoline, Flammable”; “No Smoking, Diesel, Flammable”).
2.03 DISPENSING UNIT:
1. The system shall be equipped with a UL-listed, electrically-operated 15 gpm dispensing pump in an enclosed steel cabinet mounted on top of 1,000-gallon capacity tanks or less, and on the side of tanks greater than 1,000-gallon capacity, and using steel side mounting brackets provided and installed by the manufacturer.
2. Nozzles from which gasoline or methanol is introduced into motor vehicles shall have a maximum flow rate not to exceed 10 gallons per minute as may be controlled through any means in the pump/dispenser system. Any dispensing pump that is dedicated exclusively to heavy-duty vehicles, boats, or airplanes is exempt from this requirement.
3. Anti-spill valves - where product piping extends below the top of the tank, the piping shall include a shut-off valve and normally-closed safety valve. The safety valve shall be an approved anti-siphon valve or electric solenoid valve.
