About this file

This document contains detailed technical specifications for a high-temperature furnace system designed for testing advanced ceramic composite materials and high-temperature metallics in an MTS servo hydraulic test stand. The comprehensive system requires four key components: 1) a three-zone capable controller with specific electrical, communication, and safety features, 2) a furnace with a maximum height of 3.50", capable of reaching 1400°C with two independent heating zones, 3) a furnace expansion option with cavity insulation designed for 1700°C or higher, and 4) a removable optically clear viewing port with a high-quality sapphire window compatible with digital image correlation. The system must be delivered within 8 weeks of order placement and features rapid heating capabilities of >150°F/Min, durable lab-grade materials, and customizable test article openings to support advanced materials research and characterization.

Specifications:

A furnace is needed to test high temperature materials consistently at a temperature of up to 1400 C in a MTS servo hydraulic test stand. The system will have a Proven service life and use supporting the development and characterization of advanced ceramic composite materials or high temperature metallics.

The system shall consist of the following components: 1) a controller, 2) a furnace, 3) furnace expansion options to increase the test zone size, and 4) a removable optically clear viewing port to allow optical measurements.

This system will need to be delivered within 8 weeks of placing the order.

1) The controller shall meet this minimum criterion:

Proven service life and use supporting the development and characterization of advanced ceramic composite materials.

Three zone capable furnace controller including all the cabling needed to connect to the

1400C furnace to insure uniform control in the hot zone.

0-10 VDC outputs of measured temperature for each zone via BNC connector on rear panel.

0-10 VDC command setpoint temperature input signal via BNC connector for each on front of panel.

Available Enclosure mounts for test frames available for ergonomic and space saving advantage Simple easy to use controls for immediate plug-and-play capability Optional RS485 communications via rear panel connector Main power breaker with additional instrument safety breaker on rear panel Ramp to set-point program, along with external command via 0-10 VDC command for set point operation.

Thermocouple options shall include R-S-B and K Open TC interlock protection that will remove power to the furnace.

Full scale high latching alarms to ensure shutoƯ in case of over temperature.

2) The furnace shall meet this minimum criterion:

Proven service life and use supporting the development and characterization of advanced ceramic composite materials.

Furnace height of no more than 3.50” (88.9 mm) total height.

Minimum of two independent heating zones for better temperature uniformity control.

Cavity insulation construction designed for 1700C or higher.

Minimum internal cavity height of 2.20” (55.9 mm) tall.

Split furnace cavity that provides eƯicient and simple access to the test article for installation of specimens in the test frame.

Simple mounting system that can be customized for easy test stand installation in either vertical or horizontal configurations in standard test frames.

Rapid heating rate capability >150 F/Min. (50C/Min.)

Durable design made of lab grade materials for long service life Proven service life and use supporting the development and characterization of advanced ceramic composite materials.

Have an available removable Viewport System if visual / optical interrogation.

Customizable test article openings

3) The furnace expansion shall meet these minimum criterion:

Cavity insulation construction designed for 1700C or higher.

Easily attached onto furnace.

Internal Dimensions of at least 4.0 inches in width, and 2.5 inches in depth.

4) The furnace view port shall meet these minimum criterion:

Cavity insulation construction designed for 1700C or higher.

Designed to maintains furnace heat uniformity.

Option to stores easily when not is use Customizable test article openings Shall provides a shuttered visual line of site to the hot zone.

Shall use a high quality sapphire window lens to provide a clear optical view of the test article.

Use a quality of Window compatible with digital image correlation – DIC.

Minimum Window opening: 25.4 mm X 50.8 mm.
