About this file
The document is a Statement of Work (SOW) for a Bruker X-ray Detector to be installed at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. The SOW details the requirements for replacing an end-of-life X-ray detector for an existing Bruker M4 Tornado instrument, specifying technical characteristics including a 60 mm2 window, resolution of <145 eV at 275,000 cps MnKa, and elemental detection limits of 10s of ppm for sodium and ppm levels for iron and similar heavy elements. The detector is critical for supporting scientific projects, including data interpretation from the NASA Curiosity rover mission on Mars, and is required to be delivered within 10 weeks of order receipt.
The associated federal contract opportunity indicates this is a sole-source procurement planned for Bruker AXS LLC under FAR 13.106-1(b)(1)(i), with NASA/NSSC as the procuring center. The solicitation (Number 80NSSC25899652Q) is currently in pre-solicitation status, with interested organizations able to submit capabilities and qualifications by 11:59 a.m. Eastern Standard Time on 4/25/2025. The procurement will use commercial item procedures, falls under NAICS Code 334515, and the government retains discretion on whether to conduct a competitive procurement based on received submissions.

STATEMENT OF WORK for Bruker X-ray Detector
1. Objective/Requirements This request is for the purchase of an X-ray detector for our existing Bruker M4 Tornado instruments, as the current X-ray detector has reached end of life and no longer functions. Without a functional X-ray detector, the instrument can not be used at all.
2. Characteristics, Scope, and Specs
The SSD detector shall have:
A large 60 mm2 window A resolution of <145 eV at 275 000 cps MnKa Elemental limits of detection on the order of 10s of ppm for Na and ppm levels for Fe and similar heavy elements
3. Place of Performance Detector will be installed in existing Bruker M4 Tornado instrument at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.
4. Period of Performance The X-ray detector will be delivered within 10 weeks of receipt of order.
