STATEMENT OF WORK
Radon Mitigation
OLE Great Falls, Montana Investigations Office
GENERAL
The Office of Law Enforcement (OLE) Great Falls, Montana Investigations Office (GFMIO) is located upon the Benton Lake National Wildlife Refuge (BLNWR), approximately twelve miles north of Great Falls, Montana. The GFMIO is located in a single-story concrete block construction building with partial basement and crawl space and is likely more than 50 years old and constructed as part of the original visitor and support buildings upon the BLNWR. The GFMIO has an estimated 2000 square feet main floor area and contains two office spaces, conference room, entry room, and kitchen/break room. The basement contains various heating and utility fixtures and is primarily used for general equipment and supply storage. Depending upon mission variables, the employee(s) spends a significant portion of work time within the main floor work area, but also intermittently access the basement area for retrieving stored equipment.
Based upon historical knowledge of the potential presence of radon at least in the basement area, the currently assigned special agent conducted an “at home” type radon test in July 2023, and found the radon level in the basement to be 4.2 pCi/L (+/- 1.2 pCi/L). In December 2023, a radon monitor temporarily installed by a radon mitigation professional confirmed an overall average radon level of 4.2 pCi/L with test samples taken hourly over a five-day period (See Attachment 2, Professional Radon Report).
