About this file
This document outlines a statement of work for a federal contract to procure a manual lathe. The solicitation seeks a Lagun Engineering American Turnmaster Manual Lathe Model 20-AT-2180-G-TW to replace two outdated engine lathes at NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center's Experimental Fabrication facility in Edwards, California. The lathe must have a 21-inch swing over the bed and 80-inch distance between centers, with the ability to swing 31 inches when using the removable gap. It requires a D1-8 spindle nose, 3.09-inch through bore in the spindle, and forward-reverse spindle disc clutch matrix. The lathe must have a 15 HP electronic variable speed spindle with RPM readout, operate on 440/480V power, and meet special electronics and certification requirements. Additional requirements include a 2-axis Acu-Rite DRO203 readout, tri-V way bed design, steady and follow rests, and a chip and coolant tray with foot brake. The period of performance is 60-90 days after award of the contract.

STATEMENT OF WORK
1. Objective/Requirements The Lathe P/N: 20-AT-2180-G-TW will replace two outdated engine lathes that no longer achieve tolerances needed to do the job. Needs to be a local company located in California with on-call tech support with a 24-hour response guarantee.
2. Characteristics, Scope, and Specs
The machine shall perform the following duties:
• Meet a capacity of 21” swing over the bed with 80” distance between centers.
• Removable gap to allow for a 31” swing in gap.
• Head stock need a D1-8 spindle nose to adapt to current chucks.
• 3.09” through bore in spindle
• Forward-reverse spindle disc clutch matrix for safer operation due to slower starting speeds
• 15 HP Electronic Variable speed spindle with RPM readout
• 440/480V power requirement
• Special Electronics to meet NFPS-79/NEMA 12-JIC/UL Certification
• 2-AXIS ACU-RITE DRO203
• Tri-V way (TW) bed design which provides perfect alignment and prevents vibration
• Steady rest and follow rest accessory
• Chip and coolant tray with a full-length foot brake for safer operations
3. Place of Performance NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center’s Experimental Fabrication facility in Edwards, CA
