STATEMENT OF WORK
The National GEM Consortium (GEM)
This Statement of Work is for the purchase of master’s GEM Fellowship Administrative/Participant costs for NASA.
Background:
1. GEM connects highly qualified students from underrepresented groups to STEM graduate Master’s programs with much-needed financial support that is often the deciding factor in pursuing graduate master’s education.
2. GEM employer membership leverages GEM’s national network of top talent. NASA MUREP can fill open research, development (fellow), and highly technical positions via this niche network of Minority Serving Institution and non- Minority Serving graduate students in partnership with various Mission Directorates (Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate, Science Mission Directorate, Space Technology Mission Directorate, and Human Exploration Operations).
3. NASA Office of STEM Engagement/MUREP has been looking for ways to increase the number of diverse graduate fellows participating in our research efforts that hail from Minority Serving Institutions. GEM provides direct access, in a tailored fashion, for MUREP to accomplish some of its student research goals and objectives.
4. Master’s GEM Fellows works as paid researchers for 10 weeks at various NASA Center’s for their Center Based Research Experience (CBRE) while completing their graduate/Master’s studies (2 years), allowing organizations/projects to assess and recruit talented employees they may not find otherwise. Access to these networks could prove important as acquisition costs could be leveraged to increase Return on Investment.
5. The proposed expenditure is related to the implementation of Agency strategies aimed at attracting the most diverse group of highly qualified master’s GEM candidates for NASA’s student engagement programs and employment opportunities. This expenditure covers the Program Administrative costs as well as Tuition assistance for the Pilot Cohort of graduate students.
The proposed purchase covers the following:
2023 GEM Master’s Fellows-MUREP
10 Master’s GEM Fellows – 2023
