About this file

This statement of work outlines maintenance service requirements for multiple Becton Dickinson flow cytometers used by the Laboratory of Immune System Biology. The maintenance agreement scope includes preventative maintenance inspections and kits twice annually, software and parts updates, unlimited service visits and telephone support from original equipment manufacturers, and a 48-hour priority response time for emergency on-site service. The contractor must provide all necessary parts and repair the equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications. The period of performance is from April 1, 2024 through March 31, 2025. The related federal contract opportunity is to provide this renewal maintenance service agreement for the flow cytometers to support research conducted by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

STATEMENT OF WORK (SOW)

Renewal Maintenance Service Agreement for Becton Dickinson (BD) Flow Cytometers

A. BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The Laboratory of Immune System Biology (LISB) investigates basic aspects of innate and adaptive immune function, with an emphasis on how the body, and more specifically, different cell types within the body discriminate between self and non-self. This discrimination is the crucial mechanism by which the body patrols itself and is able to respond appropriately following exposure to microorganisms or vaccines. Using computational biological approaches coupled with more traditional biological experimentation, the LISB strives to build models of how the mammalian immune system responds to pathogens and vaccines. These models allow us to make informed predictions as to how the body will respond when challenged with various microbes and vaccine formulations. To address these questions, it is imperative to know which cell types are present in a given experimental sample.

The LISB focuses solely on high-tech imaging analysis, advanced microscopy techniques, and cell-type cataloging and tracking during various phases of immune responses. A key component of this work is the use of flow cytometry, whereby preparations of various types of labelled cells are analyzed and cataloged.

The LISB has multiple high-end Becton, Dickinson, and Company (BD) flow cytometry platforms already in use for imaging various samples and this acquisition will augment those capabilities by providing support upstream of imaging and servicing throughout. The flow cytometers are essential for furthering the capabilities of the LISB. The maintenance service agreement is needed to ensure continued operation and fidelity of the flow cytometers.

B. PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVE

The purpose of this acquisition is to provide a maintenance service agreement for flow cytometers, various lasers and accessories manufactured by BD. The cytometer systems consist of the following:

• FACSAria III – 3 Laser System (Serial # P99900014)

• LSRFortessa SORP (Serial # R64717700196)

• FACS Flow Supply System (Serial # N3492775405)

• High Throughput Sampler (Serial # R647701000401)

• LSRFortessa SORP (Serial # R64717700194)

• FACS Flow Supply System (Serial # N3492775418)

• High Throughput Sampler (Serial # R647701000415)

• LSRFortessa SORP (Serial # H64717700055)

• FACS Flow Supply System (Serial # N3332)

• LSRFortessa SORP (Serial # H64717700104)

• FACS Flow Supply System (Serial # N3492774233)

• High Throughput Sampler (Serial # R647701000045)

• FACSymphony A3 (Serial # R66093700076)

• FACS Flow Supply System (Serial # N3492775746)

• FACSymphony A3 (Serial # R66093700215)

• FACS Flow Supply System (Serial # 349277N0263)

These cytometers are constantly in use throughout the day and if were put out of action due to the lack of maintenance or mechanical failure, the ability of the investigators to conduct their research would be severely handicapped. Each of the instruments support multiple experiments each day, and each instrument is fully utilized. Due to the heavy usage of the BD cytometers, they must be repaired, recalibrated, and returned to operation as soon as possible after failure. If systems were put out of action due to lack of maintenance or mechanical failure, the ability of the investigators in the LISB to conduct their research would be severely compromised. These unique parts and system integrity are required to maintain the highest quality of these cytometers. To this end, the LISB requires a maintenance service agreement in place in the event the equipment should fail tolerances and are required by a service engineer. In addition, the maintenance service agreement provides a complete preventive maintenance program, which have proven to be the most efficient and reliable method to maintain research data quality.
