0. Remove the machine and ship it to the contractor’s facility to perform the machine rebuild. Machine will have been electrically disconnected prior to Contractor arrival.

0. Contractor shall completely disassemble, catalog and inspect the entire machine assembly. Parts that can be reused shall be cleaned, painted (as required for preservation) and reused. Parts that need replacement shall be ordered, or when necessary, reverse engineered, manufactured, and installed.

0. All drive racks, gears and shafts will be visually inspected for wear, material damage and other defects which could prevent the machine from performing as designed by the OEM.

0. Cross rail and saddle ways will be evaluated at the inspection. The ways will be returned to the OEM specified flatness and straightness.

0. All other ways, gibs, taper shoes and liners shall be ground, machined or hand scraped to return the machine to its original machine geometry. If a shoe or liner is damaged beyond repair, the Contractor shall replace it.

0. The Contractor shall scrape all bearing surfaces to achieve a minimum of 80% contact.

0. All way wipers shall be replaced.

1. All bushings, bearings, seals and worn couplings shall be replaced as required.

1. The turret shall be disassembled and inspected. All bearings, bushings and locking pins shall be replaced as required. The turret will be reassembled and aligned with the machine axes.

1. All rail elevating components including bearings, bushings and seals shall be replaced as required in the main drivetrain. Rail elevating screws shall be inspected. If found to have damage, replace with new Acme screws.

1. The column ways shall be scraped to restore machine geometry and achieve a minimum of 80% contact.

1. All clamps and locks shall be rebuilt or adjusted as needed. The clamps shall allow for free movement in an unclamped position, and provide holding force while in the clamped position.

1. All bearings, seals, gaskets, and couplings shall be replaced as needed. The main table bearings shall be cleaned, inspected and reinstalled if found to be within OEM tolerance.

1. The hydraulic system shall be completely rebuilt. All hoses, gages, seals, filters, directional valves and other replaceable parts shall be replaced by equal or better components.

1. The Contractor will clean and paint the entire machine. The machine will be painted to a color of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard’s choice. PNSY will provide a RAL# for the color after the receipt of a PO.

1. Once the machine is assembled at the contractor’s facility, the contractor shall perform basic running tests to ensure the rebuild was successful. The customer will then travel to the contractor’s facility and provide a test part, tooling, and operator to perform cutting tests at the contractor’s facility. The customer shall perform basic running tests to ensure test accuracies and surface finish capabilities through the manufacturing of a test part that meets the dimensional requirements of an engineering drawing provided by Portsmouth Naval Shipyard – Detachment San Diego (see attachment 1). Tooling design and geometry shall be of the customer’s choice. The test shall include a variety of cuts to include straight turning, taper turning, shoulder and face cuts. Surface finish on all cuts shall be not greater than 32 RMS. The test piece shall be accurate to plan within +/- 0.0004” on each cut.

1. The material used for these tests will be supplied by the customer and shall be SAE 1045 or equivalent.

Upon delivery to Portsmouth Naval Shipyard – Detachment San Diego, the Contractor shall unload and reinstall the machine.

23. Upon completion of installation at the receiving activity, the contractor shall verify the alignment and accuracy specifications of Table 1 are met. This test shall be used to demonstrate reliable operation and performance.
