The tank shall be located higher than the engine during the flush. The procedure is as follows:
Note: The system pump SHALL NOT be used to circulate the detergent solution. The system pump shall be bypassed or removed. Use of the system pump to circulate the detergent solution can lead to cavitation erosion of the pump body and impeller. An external pump and tank with a heating coil shall be used for heating and circulating the detergent solution. Use of the system pump to circulate the detergent solution can lead to cavitation erosion of the pump body and impeller.
a. Open all low point drains and completely dump the cooling system.
b. Fill the cooling system with clean, fresh water and fill the mixing tank to 1/3 capacity.
c. Circulate and heat the water to 145 to 155 °F (62 to 68 °C), Ensure that the detergent circulates through all areas of the jacket water system for a more complete flush.
d. For each gallon of water in the system, add to the tank 1/2 ounce of MIL-D-16791
