STATEMENT OF WORK SOUTH POST ENTRANCE SIGN

PURCHASE AND INSTALLATION

PR# 11511834

Project Title: South Post Entrance Sign, Fort Devens For: Fort Devens South Post Training Installation, Fort Devens, MA

1 Background: Fort Devens has been without proper signage and directional signs for quite some time. The sign currently located to the front of South Post Fort Devens entrance is proportionately smaller, amongst other regulatory requirements not being met, and falling into disrepair.

2 Scope/Objective: Purchase of an entrance sign that complies with UFC 3-120-01 under US Army guidelines for materials, construction and esthetics. To then have said signage installed at the front the South Post training areas entrance at 1 Jackson Road, South Post, Fort Devens, MA 01434.

2.1 Scope: This Statement of Work (SOW) requires procurement of a sign, designated by UFC 3-120-01 for the South Post Entrance of Fort Devens. All aspects of the design and construction must comply with the following standards:

2.1.1 All signs, foundations, and connections must be engineered to resist wind loads and thermal movement according to the local climate requirements without distortions and excessive deflections. Shop drawings submitted by the vendor must include fabrication details such as elevations, message layouts, sections, side views, plan views, mounting details, and electrical or communication details. Submittals for all freestanding signs must include design calculations and the signed seal of a registered structural engineer licensed in the required area or follow approved state department of transportation standards to ensure compliance with all design and load requirements. Shop drawings must illustrate all means of mounting and attachment for proper coordination for connections to building structures.

2.1.2 The sign must contain graphic information on both sides. The sign must contain only the following information: the US Army service branch logo (see attached); Service branch (US ARMY) identification text in all caps. The font must be Helvetica Neue 95 Black; installation name (Fort Devens South Post) in upper- and lowercase letters (font must be Helvetica Neue 75 Bold); gate identification information (Main Entrance) will be added to the base of the sign on a separate brick façade to be added later (the font must be Helvetica Neue 65 Medium).

2.1.3 The sign and background material should be fabricated from aluminum with a painted finish. All logo symbols and seals must be 0.5 inch (13 millimeters [mm]) thick and fabricated from highly durable materials with full color graphics. All letterforms must be constructed of 0.5-inch (13-mm) -thick aluminum. Use a paint to match a “brushed aluminum” finish for the center part of the sign cabinet. Provide a dark bronze painted finish for the background of the sign face. The supporting structure materials may vary to match the architectural character of the surrounding environment or installation-specific standards. Provide a vertical brushed finish with a factory-applied coating to aluminum letterforms on dark backgrounds. Accent color yellow (see attached) are used to help reinforce the brand identity of the Army branch, and mirrors the match brushed aluminum stripe at the button of the sign on both sides.

2.1.4 The structure supporting the sign may vary to complement the predominant architectural style of the installation. Existing brick planter base will be utilized / incorporated into the height and installation of the South Post sign. Temporary removal of earth/debris maybe required in order to modify the ground for installation of the signs support elements.

2.1.5 Overall dimensions of the sign are as follows: total length – 14’-0”, total height (including planter base) – 10’-0”, and total width is 1’-9”. See attached excerpt from UFC 3-120-01, page 14 for detailed references

2.2 Objective: This Statement of Work (SOW) requires an upgrade to the existing South Post entrance sign at Fort Devens, MA, and placement of said sign in a better location. The end state will allow for Fort Devens to meet a minimum criteria outlined in UFC 3-120-01, and for Fort Devens to have a proper full sized entrance sign to mitigate any confusion or misidentification.
