PROGRAM BACKGROUND

5th Armored Brigade, First Army (Division West) mission comprises of the requirement to train Soldiers in small arms combat skills, to include operations and tactics in a multinational environment, requiring significant efforts to establish and maintain the highest level of proficiency and relevancy in security force operations and combat marksmanship operations. Operations and combat marksmanship training on these skills, includes, but is not limited to, support to doctrine and policy as outlined in FM 3- 22, ATP 3-07-10, TRADOC PAM 325-8-5, CALL Handbook, GUARDIAN ANGEL, ISAF Insider Threat Handbook (2.0), FM 3-50, and TC 3.22.69, as well as, Commander’s Mission Essential Task List (METL) training for the tasks outlined in FM 3-22.9, FM 3- 21.8, FM 3-23.35, FM 3-06, ATP 3-39.11, ATP 3-39.45, ATP 3-06.20 and TC 3-21.8 and TC 90-1, and others. Combat marksmanship requires skills to rapidly recognize, categorize and engage threats in all environments while moving, turning, stationary and using non-standard firing positions. Training on these skills using simulators that specifically enhance human performance factors, provides increased survivability and lethality. The system must be an advanced virtual marksmanship training system that continually stresses Soldier capabilities and drives marksmanship improvement.

Advanced marksmanship training is the ability to perform these same skills with multiple weapons, at varying ranges, under specific time constraints and accuracy requirements.

Further, training these skills through the use of simulators which specifically enhance human performance factors, provides increased survivability and lethality, with significant savings in time, money, and a commensurate statistical analysis of training effect, not achievable on live-fire ranges or current small arms training systems within the Army or DoD.
