About this file

This document is a Sources Sought notice issued by the Department of the Army Materiel Command, Army Contracting Command Aberdeen Proving Ground, seeking potential vendors for a microfluidic droplet system. The key requirements include a system capable of sorting microdroplets ranging from 20-100 micrometers in diameter, sorting water-in-oil emulsions, and interrogating microdroplets using fluorescence analysis. The system must have a graphical user interface, use non-proprietary microdroplet generation methods, and be capable of sorting based on at least two fluorescent colors.

Interested parties are asked to respond within 5 business days, providing details on the extent to which they can meet the specifications, their business type, whether they are an OEM or authorized reseller, relevant GSA Schedule numbers, an informal quote, business size, and any small business designations. Past experience and performance must also be described. The estimated delivery timeframe is 3 months from contract award. The place of contract performance is the Adelphi Lab Center in Adelphi, Maryland.

A. Objective:

To find sources that are qualified to meet the supplies/services as listed in section 11 B. Note that the specific requirements in section B are subject to change prior to the release of any solicitation.

B. Salient Characteristics The Contractor shall provide One (1) microfluidic droplet system. The system shall meet or exceed the following requirements:

A microfluidic droplet system:

· Capable of sorting microdroplets ranging from 20-100 micrometers (um) in diameter;

· Sort microdroplet formed by water-in-oil emulsions;

· Instrument that can interrogate microdroplets needing to be analyzed using fluorecence analysis;

· Containing some form of graphical user interface to pair with the control system (e.g. computer) in order to monitor sort experiments and change system conditions;

· Ability to use microdroplets generated solely from non-proprietary (i.e. not on their own instrument) methods;

· capable of sorting based on two (2) or more intra-microdroplet criteria (i.e. at least 2 fluorescent colors) 488 nanometers (nm) & 405nm, 561 nm, 638 nm for example

· wavelength detection around 445-460, 520-545, 580-610, 665-680, 716, or 775 nm (+/- 70 nm for each)

· Capable of sorting through an e-field (dielectrophoretic) or mechanical (e.g. pneumatic) based forces

· From a distributor that produces commercial, off-the-shelf chips for sale

C. Responses:

All interested parties should notify this office in writing via e-mail within the posted date. Responses shall include:

(I) To what extent each of the specifications can be met.
