Background

The Indian Health Service (IHS) is the principal federal health care provider and health advocate for Indian people, and its goal is to raise their health status to the highest possible level. IHS provides a comprehensive health service delivery system for approximately 2.3 million American Indians and Alaska Natives (AI/AN) who belong to 573 federally recognized Tribes in 37 states. IHS has 12 Area Offices and 10 Accounting Offices across the United States.

These offices support the extensive health care delivery network and provide managerial, financial and administrative support to the hospitals, clinics and health centers.

To address infectious diseases, chronic conditions, and health disparities in American Indian and Alaska Native

(AI/AN) communities, it is essential to promote health through accessible, culturally relevant public health resources and education. The National Infectious Disease Public Health Curriculum (NIPHC) advances a collaborative One

Health approach that strengthens trust, coordination, and communication across the Indian Health Service. By focusing on emerging infectious diseases, pandemic preparedness, surveillance, health education, environmental connections, and disease prevention, the NIPHC works with communities to build local public health capacity and improve health outcomes.

Description of Supplies/Services

As part of this effort, the NIPHC Health Promotion and Wellness Subcommittee seeks to expand the availability of culturally appropriate public health content and increase the number of AI/AN individuals receiving meaningful, accessible health information. To support this initiative, the Subcommittee requires a contractor to collaborate on the development and dissemination of high-quality communication products that promote healthy behaviors, reduce complications from chronic conditions, and strengthen individuals’ capacity for effective self-managed care, ultimately contributing to improved overall health and wellness across AI/AN communities.
