About this file
This is a Sources Sought notice from the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) seeking information from potential suppliers of chromium (UHP Cr) targets used in plate-making through physical vapor deposition plating processes. The BEP plans to establish an Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract to procure 36 chromium targets for each of their facilities (DCF and WCF) in the first ordering period, with four additional ordering periods requiring the same quantity. The targets must meet specific dimensions of 16x131x402mm with 99.95% minimum purity and precise tolerances.
The notice falls under NAICS code 332999 with a size standard of 750 employees. Interested vendors must provide their company details, UEI, CAGE code, capability statement, manufacturing location, minimum order quantity, and procurement lead time. Responses are due by January 6, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. EDT, with questions to be submitted to specified BEP contacts. The chromium targets serve multiple functions including forming protective oxide layers, enabling consistent thin film deposition, providing high-resolution sputter coating, and protecting engine components against wear.

The North American Industry Classification System Code (NAICS) is 332999 with a business size standard of 750.
The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) develops and produces United States currency notes, trusted worldwide. The BEP uses several types of industrial plates at its facilities located in Washington, D.C., and Fort Worth, TX. These plates support the manufacturing process in providing high-quality print products of which the primary is United States Currency. This requirement supports the creation of Plate Making through a physical vapor deposition (PVD) plating process. The BEP seeks to establish an Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) for thirty-six (36) chromium (UHP (Ultra High Purity) Cr) targets for each facility (DCF and WCF) for a first Ordering Period, and thirty-six (36) targets for each facility consecutively for four (4) additional Ordering Periods.
Capability or Performance.
The Bureau of Engraving and Printing needs a manufacturer capable of making chromium targets according to the BEP’s specifications as listed below:
· UHP Cr 16x131x402mm (99.95% minimum purity)
· Tolerances as follows:
· 16 (+/- .2) mm
· 131 (-.2) mm
· 402 (-.3) mm
Chromium sputtering targets have several functions:
· Formation of a thin, protective oxide layer on the surface to prevent oxidation and extend the life of the target.
· Enabling consistent thin film deposition across the substrate surface.
· Providing high resolution sputter coating for FE-SEM applications.
· Protecting engine components against rapid wear and extending their service life.
Responses to this notice should include the following:
1. Company Name, UEI, Cage Code, Capability Statement, Company Size, Vendor’s technical and administrative points of contact, including names, titles, addresses, telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail addresses.
2. Location of manufacture. Indicate if the manufacturer or distributor.
3. Minimum order quantity.
4. Procurement Lead time (time from order to shipping).
Interested parties that believe they could satisfy the requirement listed above for BEP may clearly and unambiguously identify their capability to do so in writing on or before the response date of this notice. Information submitted in response to this notice will be used solely to determine whether competitive procedures could be used for this acquisition. Any questions regarding this notice must be submitted in writing via email to sharrion.young-mosley@bep.gov and vaughn.oswalds@bep.gov no later than 1:00 p.m. EDT., January 6, 2025.
