Spraying the remainder beyond the first 3 feet of the riprap adjacent to mowed areas or riprap areas which are not adjacent to a mowed area is not a requirement of this contract.

Use of herbicide for containing poisonous plants around structures or trees is permitted with approval of the COR and in accordance with paragraph 1.4.2b.

1.4.2b Herbicides. The Contractor shall provide all herbicide at their expense. At the discretion of the COR, he/she may choose not to mow or delay the mowing of any area and notify the Contractor of such a decision whereby that area will not be cut by the Contractor until verbal permission has been received from the COR.

1.4.8. Edging Requirements. In conjunction with each mowing and trimming operation the

Contractor will, with equipment designed specifically for the purpose, edge along the entire perimeter of all sidewalks and building slabs. Edging will also be performed on all concrete surfaced areas such as driveways, picnic table slabs, utility table slabs, pavilion & picnic shelters, miscellaneous slabs, and vacant concrete slabs. Edging requirements, at a minimum, shall be 1/2” in width and 1 ½” in depth from the soil surface. Upon completion of edging operations these areas will possess a uniform appearance and will be free of all vegetative growth on all surface areas.

1.4.9. Mowing and Edging Debris. Immediately upon completion of mowing, trimming, and edging in any area, all grass clippings, dirt, debris from fire ant mounds, or other such waste that is displaced shall be removed from sidewalks, paved, and other improved surfaces.

1.4.10. Precipitous Slopes. The Contractor shall be aware of the hazard presented by steep and/or slippery slopes. In these areas conventional mowing methods and equipment may be dangerous due to overturning and sliding hazards. Accordingly, the Contractor will employ specialized mowing procedures to avoid the hazards in these areas. Also, the Contractor shall exercise extra caution under these circumstances to minimize the hazard and prevent damage to the sod.

1.4.11. Mowing Adjacent to the Structures. All mowing performed within 25 feet of any office, comfort stations, pavilion, shelter, fences, or other permanent structures will not be performed by tractors exceeding 22 horsepower or bush hog type mowers in these areas.

The Contractor shall not use any mowing, trimming methods, equipment, or agents which endanger employees or other persons in the area, or which generate noise levels which, in the COR’s determination, are disruptive to public use and/or enjoyment of an area or its facilities, or which might cause damage or potentially put at risk project features and facilities. Failure to comply with these prohibited methods and/or equipment may result in deductions in payments made to the Contractor as described in paragraph 5.2.3.1, Deduction Schedule.
