About this file
This document is a Statement of Need (SON) for a federal contract opportunity to provide a replacement wheel build-up stand and wheel assembly torque system for the 60th Maintenance Squadron/Wheel & Tire at Travis AFB.
The 60th Maintenance Squadron/Wheel & Tire requires new equipment to assemble aircraft wheels for C-17, C-5, and KC-46 aircraft. The current torque system is inoperative and requires upgrade parts, while the existing wheel build-up stand has reached the end of its life and needs replacement. Without these critical items, the unit's production is reduced by 75%, potentially causing supply chain delays.
The contractor shall provide a replacement torque system that can simultaneously torque two wheel nuts with an accuracy of 2% at maximum torque and 1 degree of torque angle, with a range of 45-225 ft/lbs. The new wheel build-up stand must be able to lift and align wheels between 16-24 inches in diameter and 37-50 inch tires. The contract includes delivery, installation, training, warranty, and calibration equipment within 30 days of contract award.
