STATEMENT OF NEED

NFFP7100-20-03340

1.0 GENERAL

1.1 BACKGROUND

The NWFSC provides scientific and technical support to NMFS for the management, conservation, and wise use of the Northwest region's marine and anadromous resources. The genetics laboratory in the Conservation Biology Division at the NWFSC is engaged in data collection in support of the NMFS and NOAA mission. This request is for a liquid handling robot to be used for sample preparation in the Genetics Laboratory in the Conservation Biology Division at the NWFSC.

1.2 OBJECTIVE

The purpose of this request is for a new liquid handling robot for sample preparation including DNA concentration standardization, re-arraying of samples, and setup of workflows for next generation sequencing and quantitative PCR. The liquid handling robot should be flexible with the use of removable and serviceable single and multi-channel electronic pipettes, and a scalable platform and footprint that can be arranged for specific workflows in the lab.

2.0 TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS The vendor will provide 1 each liquid handling robot with the following specifications:

· A liquid handling robot, standalone configuration (no connectivity to internet needed), compatible to use with removable, serviceable, and re-chargeable electronic single and multi-channel pipettes (volume range 0.5 to 5000 uL). The bench platform and footprint for the robot should not be fixed, but scalable for different workflows, and reducing to a minimal size when not in use for storage where bench space is limited.

· Standalone software (not cloud based) for programming and implementing protocols for the liquid handling robot. The features of this software should include drag and drop programming for liquid handling protocols, including sample normalization (to user-specified DNA concentration and volume), cherry-picking or re-arraying of samples in 96- and 384-well plate format, setup of serial or user-specified dilutions, dispensing of samples and reagents for quantitative PCR; software should also include the ability to produce and save reports from liquid handling protocols for quality control and reporting. The software should be supported and updatable for the lifetime of the robot.

· Electronic pipettes with the following specifications: 8-channel 0.5-10 uL (quantity: 1), 8-channel 5-120 uL (quantity: 1), single channel 10-300 uL (quantity: 1). Pipettes should integrate seamlessly with the liquid handling robot, but should be removable, serviceable (for calibration and cleaning), interchangeable (to allow future expansion with additional pipettes with different volumes), and also used at the bench independently of the robot.

· Free (not fixed) blocks that can be rearranged, removed, and stored, and that are compatible with user-provided and standard lab consumable plasticware, including 96-well plates, 384-well plates, and PCR plates. The specific blocks requested to use on the robot platform are: microplate blocks (for use with 96-well and 384-well skirted microplates; quantity: 2), cooled 96-well microplate block (quantity: 1) pipette tip box blocks (quantity: 3), 8-channel reservoir blocks (quantity: 1), and 96-well PCR plate (non-skirted plates) block (quantity: 1)
