Statement of Work Project Purchase of an enhanced low range respiration package, Gas switching system for 8 channels and software to collect data and process the data for Insect Management and Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory
General Information
1.0 Scope of Work
The Insect Management and Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory (IMMDL) run several key studies involving invasive insect species and beneficial species used on biocontrol. The IMMDL also maintains a mission‐critical colony of Mexican fruit fly (Mexfly), Anastrepha ludens (Diptera: Tephritidae), that is used as both a backup colony for the local mass‐rearing operation and as a research colony for experimentation to improve mass‐rearing and sterile insect technique (SIT).
This purchase will allow IMMDL to improve insect colonies evaluations increasing the quality of data generated with them. The enhanced Low Range Respiration Package is a versatile tool designed for measuring the metabolic rate of organism such as insects, and other invertebrates. It operates in both open flow and stop flow modes, allowing researchers to gather valuable data on respiratory processes. In open flow mode, it provides continuous, fast response data, calculating CO₂ production (VCO₂) and oxygen consumption (VO₂). In stop flow mode, it measures partial pressure, making it suitable for very small or metabolically inactive specimens.
2.0 Background
Currently, IMMDL develop studies and quality control of insect species colonies and strains and run several studies related to insect fitness and insect stress. This purchase would improve the low range respiration package system, enable the early detection of variables impacting insects, and enable substantial improvement of the quality control assessments.
Contractor Requirements
3.0 Technical Requirements / Tasks
The contractor will ship the pre‐assembled units and provide detailed manual guide for the operation of the respiration package system and provide a software system and provide download code to POC to work with the IT at MAB that will proceed with software installation. After installation and verification that it operates within factory specification, the contractor should provide contact information on how to request service support as needed and warranty information.
4.0 Government Furnished
The contractor must inform the point of contact, JoseCarlos.VerleRodrigues@usda.gov on potential dates for shipping and delivery. The POC will negotiate the final date and time and contractor will provide online support. The POC will also coordinate with IT at MAB to ensure that the system is compliant.
