Requirements

STATEMENT OF WORK

Laser Cutter Laser Engraver Acquisition

1.0 SCOPE

The Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division NSWC IHD W12 has received funding and approval to procure a laser engraver and a laser cutter in support of a NISE FY26 CBRD Area Lab Revitalization Project.

2.0 DESCRIPTION OF MATERIAL

Market research of capabilities and asset characteristics along with current asset compatibility supports that both items be sourced from Boss Laser LLC.

The Boss Laser LS 1630 is an industrial grade carbon dioxide laser cutter which can cut through many types of non-metal material. This cutter is required by W12 to prepare test samples and accomplish test and evaluation of filter media efficiency. Cutters like these are used by multiple advanced filtration laboratories to carry out precision cutting and preparation of filter media. As the Navys main outreach for this type of evaluation it is imperative that W12 have the tools to create precise and trustworthy data sets.

The Boss Laser FM D is an industrial grade fiber laser engraver which can engrave any type of metal. This engraver is required by W12 to support the in Service Engineering Agents ISEA mission to provide the fleet with fast solutions. Due to the recent upgrade of systems on some ships and the deterioration of plates on other ships the chemical biological and radiological CBR ISEAs have needed to replace a considerable number of CBR systems label plates. However due to delays in purchasing or high costs these label plates are unable to arrive in time to be installed causing maintenance delays for ships force. This engraver will allow W12 to not only provide a fast and cheap solution for the CBR ISEA team but also allow for experimenting with using engraved plates in decontamination stations to improve throughput instructions.
