In the last two decades following years of conflict and civil wars during the 1980s, the countries in Central America have made significant social and economic advances. Sound economic management has spurred economic growth, and greater access to education and innovative social programs have resulted in declining levels of poverty and a narrowing of income inequality. The region is highly susceptible to natural disasters and climate change continues to pose serious economic threats, specifically affecting marginalized populations.
