MODIFY FOUR 20 FEET SHIPMENT CONTAINERS TO A TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED UNITS &
GYM, U.S. EMBASSY COMPOUND (ANNEX), JUBA
STATEMENT OF WORK
A. BACKGROUND AND GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The US Embassy local staff gym facility is located at the Embassy Compound, and it is a double prefabricated container placed side by side with the middle walls removed to create a single space. It is connected to the local power network and fitted with AC units, power outlets and lighting. These containers are placed on a concrete slab with a short cement block wall, of about 1 m in height, constructed inside for stability of the structure. The facility has an iron sheet roof placed on steel trusses fixed to the containers. Attached to the facility is a shower room that will require repairs and maintenance. There has been an increase in the number of staff using this facility and the Mission has procured additional equipment to be installed. The Mission would like to expand on the facility to accommodate the increase in demand by replacing the two prefabricated containers with shipping containers and placing additional two units on the top. The middle walls on each level shall be removed to create a single space. All the remaining walls shall be insulated with appropriate materials. The new units shall be connected to a power source, air-conditioned units, and power outlets. USAID requires services from a qualified contractor to supply and modify four shipping containers, and repair and maintain the existing shower room as further described in the sections below.
B. SCOPE OF WORK
The Contractor shall perform the following activities:

The site for the permanent location of this modified unit is at the US Embassy Compound (EC) Annex. The new containers should be placed on the existing slab of the current double containers after it has been improved. The containers shall be placed two side-by-side with two on top. The walls in between the two adjacent containers must be cut off, cleaned, and sealed (airtight/leak-proof).

Apply a rust proof painting to all exposed surfaces followed by a final coating of metal paint. The color shall be battleship gray for exterior surfaces and the internal color shall be determined on site during the performance of the work. The repairs should conform to the Repair Manual for the Steel Freight Containers by the Institute of International Container Lessors, Ldt.
b. Supply and install a ceiling using 5mm gypsum ceiling tiles on each floor not greater than 400mm x 400mm.
c. Supply and install Acoustic wall panels to all the vertical sides of the internal walls. Panels at a minimum should meet the specification provided in attachment. The contractor shall submit the manufacturer’s datasheet for the panels to USAID’s Activity Manager for review and approval.
d. Allow for cutting one of the long face sides for 1 door on each floor. The doors shall be aluminum doors with semi vision panels and no less than 5mm glass. The glass shall be coated with an anti-shatter film membrane.
The door sizes shall be no less than 1.0m wide x 2.1m high. Door frames shall be no less than 50mm x 100mm x 3mm thick hollow section iron members.
e. Supply and install upto 8 windows 8.0m x 6.0m; windows must be aluminum framing, 5mm glass with anti-shatter film. Windows must be capable of an external opening. All windows must be sliding type in 2 leaves at 4.0m each with manufacturer’s overlap and carry mosquito mesh. The work must allow for cutting 8 window ports and framing to receive the new windows.
f. Remove the existing flooring boards, repair, and reinforce the metal joists on each floor and cast concrete floor of not more than 150mm and apply non-skid floor tiles finishing. Tiles shall be porcelain, no less than 4mm thick and no greater than 300mm x 300mm. The contractor shall submit sample tiles for USAID Activity Manager approval.
g. Construct a concrete floor slab in both the ground and first floor containers as per design.
h. Allow for transportation of gym equipment from the store and installation in the new gym facility.
i. Supply and install steel staircase of minimum width 1m, with a landing platform, for accessing the upper floor containers. Supply electrical materials, cabling works and installation of electrical fixtures on both floors.
j. Allow for a roof over the new unit with lightweight framing gable trusses and no less than 26-gauge roofing sheets. The work must allow for facia, and gutters and downpipes along the longer side of the unit for both front and back. Allow for 6m of run-off ducting to each downpipe for training the run-off to the nearest drain.
k. Allow for fabricating a covered canopy at the entrance doorway.
l. Allow for repairs, elevation/reinforcement, and extension of the existing slab to accommodate the new containers.

f) Supply and install up to two electric panel boxes of US or European standard;
the capacity shall be 30% greater than the expected consumption of the newly modified container. Supply and install electrical materials to power all consumer units. The Contractor must provide the sub-panel and supply armored cable with capacity to support the electrical demand. All cables must be in a duct passage.
2. CLIN 0002 - Decommissioning and removal of the existing containers:
There is an existing double 20ft prefabricated container unit, with steel trusses and iron sheet roof, fitted with gym equipment on the site which is presently used as gym. The existing gym unit shall be deactivated of all services. Services include electrical hook-up;
water supply and one AC unit and power outlets. After deactivation, this unit shall be removed from the site by crane lifting, loaded, transported, and disposed of as instructed by the USAID Activity Manager and/or in accordance with the local authority laws. All unsuitable materials shall be excavated to a minimum of 300mm and disposed of from the EC-Annex. The contractor shall respect and protect works of other traders as a result of the decommissioning and removal of the existing unit.
