Requirement Specifications Title: UV Accelerated Weathering Tester

1.0 Background

Reclamation’s Materials and Corrosion Laboratory (MCL) is purchasing two UV Accelerated Weathering Testing machines. One machine must be capable of exposing materials to UV light (at a precise and maintainable intensity) and moisture at controlled elevated temperatures (geosynthetics testing). The other machine needs to be capable of exposing materials to UV light only, for extended periods of time, where intensity is controlled by periodic lamp replacement (coatings testing). Both machines must be capable of simulating the effects of natural sunlight using special fluorescent UV lamps.

The MCL currently has three UV Accelerated Weathering Testers for coatings lab use. Recently one of the older machines stopped working so there is now only two functioning machines in the lab. Due to sample testing demands from the variety of coatings research projects being conducted by the MCL, a replacement UV Accelerated Weathering Testing machine is required. Additionally, the MCL’s expansion into Geosynthetic material testing, requires the purchase of an additional machine that is capable of running the required testing protocol for geosynthetic liner testing. Geosynthetic liners (ASTM D7238) and coatings require different testing protocols, therefore two separate machines are required.

2.0 Scope

The scope is to acquire two (2) commercially available laboratory grade UV Accelerated Weathering Testers and within a stackable space saver frame due to lab space restrictions.

3.0 Specifications

CLIN 010: One (1) Each – Basic UV Accelerated Weathering Tester.

– Must be capable of exposing materials to UV light only for extended periods of time where intensity is controlled by periodic lamp replacement (coatings testing). Condensation not required.

• Must abide by the ASTM G154 and D4587 requirements.

CLIN 020: 24 EA - UVA-340 Fluorescent Lamps

CLIN 030: One (1) Each - Condensation UV Accelerated Weathering Tester
