Specifications

Supply Chimney Components for Structures at Coal Creek Camp in Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve, Alaska.

Background The chimney/stove-pipe systems of nine buildings at YUCH Coal Creek Camp do not meet fire, life, and safety standards as set forth by the NFPA and are scheduled to be replaced as part of the PMIS Project # 331039. The historic structures are contributing resources to the Coal Creek Historic Mining District. The chimney components are either original to the 1930’s structures, or have been replaced during previous repair campaigns.

Statement of Need All chimney components, from the woodstove collar up to and including the chimney cap, at 10 locations are scheduled to be replaced. The existing chimneys at these locations are a mix of salvaged piping from nearby dredge operations. They do not provide adequate insulation at the ceiling and roof, and in some cases are located too close to interior walls and/or do not meet exterior clearances at the roof decking. Replacing chimneys with NFPA-Certified units will greatly improve the fire safety of the wood burning stoves.

The components listed below comply with Park approval, meet the historic preservation criteria outlined in section 106 of the NHPA, and have been specified by working with a subject matter expert. Chimney components have been specifically calculated and are listed as required. All components should be single-brand-sourced so that all finishes match and all parts are compatible with one another.

Specifications Listed chimney components are made by ICC Premium Chimney Systems©. Contractor will provide this brand, or its equal. If using a different brand, contractor must be able to guarantee that the same specifications listed below can be met or exceeded and must negotiate this alternative with the buyer prior to awarding of this contract.

Specifications include EXCELPrime (single wall), EXCEL (double wall, insulated), and the Warranty listed at the end of this section. Colors/finishes are included as a part of these specifications.
